Sir Peter Blake
Often described as the Godfather of British Pop Art, Sir Peter Blake's career at the forefront of British Modern Art spans the last fifty years.
At the core of his work has been a fascination with the world of popular culture and entertainment, music, film and sports. His work has often centred around legends from all walks of life, and he has painted celebrity figures from the Beach Boys to the Spice Girls. Among his most widely known works are his iconic album covers, including The Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band and the Band Aid single, Do They Know it's Christmas?
A prolific printmaker in the media of Silkscreen and Lithography, Sir Peter has, in recent years, also become a pioneer in the field of digital printmaking.
I am fascinated by the effect the inkjet printer has on images of everyday objects when they are greatly enlarged. The detail that these printers are capable of producing is quite amazing. I love the way these machines combined with computers help to translate the ephemera from my collection into exciting prints.
